10f im Amerikahaus
In the week before Christmas our class went to the Amerika-Haus in Munich to watch “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, presented by the TNT Theatre company.
Plot
It`s Christmas time and all people are happy and friendly.
But one old man whose name is Ebenezer Scrooge isn`t in a Christmassy mood, so he`s even more unfriendly to the others than normally. He is a notations old miser and exploits his employee and his tenants as much as he can.
One night, three ghosts come to the man one after another and show him his past, present and future. He is shocked about what he missed in his life, his love, and about what will happen in the future if he doesn`t change his unfriendly and bad ways.
They show him that all people will be happy when he`s dead.
In the end Ebenezer Scrooge tries to change himself and his life and so he becomes a friendly and generous man and the people begin to like him.
Our opinion
The play was very funny and never boring because there were a lot of jokes to inspire the spectators.
The suitable atmosphere was created by a lot of singing and music which was made by the actors themselves with fiddle and accordion.
Furthermore it was very interesting to hear such a play in English that was mostly easy to understand.
Stage design
It was very simple with only a few objects, e.g. with some chairs, which were turned into, a bed, a mirror and a door.
So it was sparse but enough for the play.
Actors
They have much talent in singing, making music and telling their story and jokes.
They looked sympathetic and played very convincingly so that the play “A Christmas Carol” was a great success with the audience.
So if you are looking forward to the next Christmas already “A Christmas Carol” in the Amerika- Haus is an experience not to be missed to get into the real Christmassy mood!
